Mali military junta holds national consultation on Transition Management in Mali

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNSP), the military junta that seized power in Mali on August 18, is will organize National Consultation on the Management of the Political Transition in Mali from September 5 to 6, PANA learned from official sources.

The purpose of the meetings is to agree on the roadmap of the transition, to define the architecture and organs of the transition, and to contribute to the elaboration of the transition charter.

The political parties, civil society organizations, the June 5 Movement - Rally of Patriotic Forces (M5 RFP), the main actor in the protest against former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and his regime, the signatory groups of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation resulting from the Algiers Process, trade unions and press associations and umbrella organizations will take part in these consultations.

The event is placed under the chairmanship of Colonel Assimi Goïta, President of the CNPS.

Following the arrest and forced resignation of president Ibrahim Boubacar Kéita, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which had been trying for two months to resolve the socio-political crisis in Mali without succeeding, recommended to the junta to put in place a civilian transition with a civilian president and prime minister.

The sub-regional organization took a series of sanctions against Mali, including the closure of all member states' borders with the country and the suspension of commercial and financial transactions until the country returns to normal constitutional order.
