Mali: Germany gives Mali 35m euros to uplift local communities

Bamako, Mali (PANA) – Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Diop and German Ambassador in Mali, Dietrich Becker, on Wednesday in Bamako signed a 35 million euros cooperation agreement to support the West African country's local authorities in the provision of potable water and sanitation and the national irrigation programme.

According to official sources, 16 million euros will be spent on the potable water and sanitation programme in semi-urban and rural areas while 11 million euros has been set aside for the national irrigation programme.

The German assistance will be devoted to the achievement of new phases for projects and programmes undertaken to improve living conditions of the Malian population.

Germany's partnership with Mali focuses on the sectors of decentralization, good governance, agriculture and water and sanitation.
