Mali: ECOWAS summit recommends resignation of 31 deputies

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The virtual extraordinary summit of heads of state of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Monday recommended the resignation of 31 Malian deputies whose election is being disputed by stakeholders, Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, indicated.

"I welcome the strong recommendations that were made this Monday during the extraordinary ECOWAS summit for a rapid exit from the crisis in Mali. The recommendations include the resignation of the 31 deputies whose election is being contested, the recomposition of the Constitutional Court", President Ouattara disclosed.

The Summit also proposed the establishment of a government of national unity and a commission of inquiry to pinpoint responsibility for the violence that rocked Mali in July.

"I urge the Malians to do everything possible to preserve stability and peace in their country," said the Ivorian president.
