Main border post of Ras Jedir between Tunisia, Libya closed

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA)  - The closure of the main border post between Tunisia and Libya since Wednesday has restricted the movement of people across their common borders.

The Interior ministry of the Libyan government of national accord in a statement Wednesday decided to close the border post.

Therefore, the Libyan security authorities, following that decision, blocked the movement of people and prevented Libyans from leaving and Tunisians from entering the Libyan territory.

Despite rumours about reasons for the closure, several Libyans have complained against the long hours of waiting reaching sometimes 24 hours during Tunisian formalities.

Dozens of Tunisian trucks and vehicles were stranded Thursday morning near the border passage, as the number of Libyan nationals who wanted to cross the border to join Tunisia continued to rise.

Since the 2011 revolution, the passage has regularly gone through closure dozens of times, creating difficulties for travelers.
