Libyan tribal leaders mandate Tunisian President to end crisis in their country

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed on Monday met with representatives of the Higher Council of Libyan Tribes and Cities to examine  opportunities for an initiative to resolve the crisis in Libya, according to a statement issued by the Tunisian presidency.

The meeting followed a mandate granted by the Superior Council to the Tunisian head of state "for an urgent intervention to stop the bloodshed and reunite the inhabitants of the same country", Libya, the statement added.

“This mandate is motivated by the support for the Libyan people that members of the Council perceived from President Saïed to help them get out of the ordeal they are going through and by the fact that he treats  all Libyan parties equally, as well as by his concern to find a solution to the crisis far away from outside interference and the language of arms.”

Soon after his election, President Saïed  expressed the priority interest he gave to the Libyan dossier.

In this regard, at the end of October, he received the president of the Supreme Council of the State in Libya, Khaled Al Mechri, and early December he received the President of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez El Sarraj, with whom he pleaded for the cessation of fighting between opposing parties and the relaunch of the political process with a view to ending the crisis in Libya.

He emphasized to his audience Tunisia's willingness to play a positive role in this direction.
