Libyan protagonists urged to observe humanitarian truce

Brazzaville, Congo (PANA) - Denis Sassou-Nguesso, the Congolese Head of State and chairman of the African Union (AU) High-Level Committee on Libya, on Tuesday in Brazzaville called the protagonists in the Libyan crisis to observe a humanitarian truce in order to save and protect the population.

The Congolese president made this appeal during a video conference attended by the member states of the High-Level Committee on Libya, the chairman of the AU Commission and the representative of the UN Secretary-General.

According to Sassou-Nguesso, this humanitarian truce ''will also facilitate the care of migrants who find themselves in precarious situations''.

He drew the attention of the international community to the need to provide substantial assistance and expertise to support the efforts of Libyans in the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus.

Last March, a meeting of the contact group on Libya was held in Oyo, a town more than 400 km north of Brazzaville where the participants made a commitment to implement an AU roadmap on Libya.
