Libyan oil trading company evacuates personnel from Maitigua airport

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Brega Oil Marketing Company, a Libyan government oil trading company, announced on Sunday that it has evacuated its personnel working at Maitigua airport at eastern suburb of Tripoli, after last Friday's bombardment by the forces of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The airport has been regularly targeted by air strikes since the launch on 4 April of the military offensive against Tripoli by the LNA led by Khalifa Haftar. It has since been closed to flights, causing the diversion of flights to Misrata airport, 220 km east of Tripoli.

In a post on its official website, Brega Oil Trading Company, affiliated to the Libyan National Oil Company (NOC), said it "has withdrawn all storage tanks and trucks supplying planes with aviation fuel because of the risks of serious bombardment" to personnel.

It said it is maintaining only one vehicle at the airport to supply ambulances.

The NOC condemned the recent bombardment against the company’s installations and employees, calling for "a ceasefire and an end to hostilities".

In another development, southern Tripoli's Al-Arban district has been plunged into darkness following the targeting of electricity transmission lines in the area during fighting on Saturday, the Libyan National Electricity Company said on Sunday.

In a statement, the company explained that the blackout has been caused by "the collapse of the 30KV electricity transmission lines supplying the Al-Arban station".
