Libyan officials discuss security situation in the country

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Senior Libyan officials have discussed the latest developments in the military and security situation in the country, including the unification of the army and the departure of mercenaries, fighters and foreign forces.

The deputy chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdallah al-Lafi, in his capacity as the supreme commander of the Libyan army, reviewed the situation with members of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission.

The meeting with members of the Joint Military Commission for the Western Region on Tuesday in Tripoli, discussed the practical measures taken for the departure of mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libyan territory, and the unification of the military institution.

In October 2021, the 5+5 Joint Military Commission, composed of equal numbers of senior officers from both sides of the conflict, the government and the Libyan National Army forces based in the east, agreed on an action plan for the "gradual, sequenced and simultaneous withdrawal" of mercenaries, fighters and foreign forces from Libya.

During the meeting, al-Lafi stressed the continued support of the Presidential Council to the efforts of the commission, so that it can accomplish the tasks entrusted to it.

This is to ensure permanent stability in all regions of Libya and complete the programme of unifying the army.
