Libyan delegation meets Algerian officials

Algiers, Algeria (PANA) - A high-level Libyan delegation this weekend made a trip to Algiers where it held talks with Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum and senior officials on the situation in Libya.

The meeting also focused on "examining ways and means of peacefully overcoming the crisis, away from violence and any attempts to impose solutions through military force and war", the Algerian foreign ministry said.

The Libyan delegation's visit is part of Algeria's efforts to bring the different Libyan components and parties closer together to re-engage in inclusive dialogue and thus reach a peaceful solution guaranteeing the sovereignty and unity of the country, within the framework of security and stability, far from any foreign interference, the Algerian foreign ministry added.

In another development, Congolese foreign minister Jean-Claude Gakosso, delivered a message from President Denis Sassou-Nguesso, who is also chairman of the African Union's High Level Committee on Libya, to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inviting him to the Committee's meeting, scheduled for 25 January.

Mr. Gakosso said faced with the threats related to the Libyan situation, the Congolese President invites the heads of state of the Member States of the Committee to a summit in Brazzaville to reflect on ways and means to adopt a common African position to prevent the deterioration of the situation in this country.
