Libyan VP satisfied with African tour focusing on border security, fight against illegal immigration

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libyan Vice President of the Presidential Council, Moussa al-Koni, has described as "successful" his African tour, which he concluded on Wednesday after visiting Sudan and Chad.

During the trip, Mr. al-Koni discussed with the presidents and senior officials of these countries common issues related to border security and the fight against illegal immigration.

Talking to journalists on his arrival at Maitigua International Airport in Tripoli, Mr. Al-Koni said that "the President of the Sovereign Council of Sudan and the ministers and officials concerned expressed their willingness to resolve the problems of migration, border security and outlawed Sudanese and Libyan criminal armed groups".

He pointed to "an agreement to develop a practical roadmap through which work will be carried out in order to reduce these security breaches and criminal acts".

Mr. Al-Koni reviewed the content of his meeting with the President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby, current President of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), which focused on the most sensitive issues between the two countries, especially after the security events in Chad, which led to the assassination of President Idriss Deby by rebel groups.

The groups left Libya but had been supplied with weapons to destabilise Libyan security. They returned to Chad and moved to all regions of the South, threatening the stability and security of both countries.

He stressed the willingness of Chadian officials to cooperate with the Libyan side to put an end to the violations committed at the borders of the two countries, pointing out the issues under discussion, including the return of the General Secretariat of CEN-SAD currently chaired by Chad and the activation of this important union on the African continent.

Mr. al-Koni announced his intention to continue discussing this issue and to visit, with a number of officials from the relevant ministries and authorities, Niger and Mali to discuss it in depth, in order to reach practical measures to be implemented on the ground.

In addition to activating the quadripartite agreement signed between the two countries, which includes the Ministers of Defence of Libya's neighbouring countries, to study the security situation in Libya, in order to play an active role in securing the borders.

He also mentioned the discussion of some common political issues between Libya, Sudan and Niger, stressing the need for the participation of the neighbouring countries in all meetings held with the countries concerned by the Libyan issue, as they are affected by the deterioration of security in the south of Libya, due to criminal groups and smugglers.
