Libyan PM discusses suspension of Libyan aviation ban with ICAO

Tripoli, Libya (PANA)- Libyan Prime Minister of the National Unity Government Abdelhamid al-Dbaiba discussed Wednesday with the Regional Director of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Office in the Middle East, Mohamed al-Faleh, support for efforts to lift the air embargo on Libyan aviation.

The meeting was attended by Transport Minister Mohamed al-Chahoubi, Deputy Minister for Air Affairs Khaled Souissi, and the acting chairman of the Airports Authority, said a statement from the prime minister's press office.

The same source said that the meeting "discussed the development mechanism of the Civil Aviation Authority and transit aviation, and expressed support for Libyan efforts to lift the air embargo on Libyan aviation.

The statement added that this meeting was part of a three-day visit of ICAO to Libya to know the state of civil aviation in view of the audit visit to be held at the end of this year to lift the ban on Libyan airports and carriers.

In 2014, the European Union decided to ban all Libyan airlines from its airspace following the deterioration of security in the country in the wake of clashes between rival armed groups that resulted in the burning of Tripoli International Airport and several aircraft.
