Libyan NGO calls for faster and immediate departure of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The National Human Rights Commission in Libya has called on the 5+5 Joint Military Commission to speed up the completion of the implementation of the remaining provisions of the ceasefire agreement, the main one being the departure of mercenaries, experts and foreign forces from Libyan territory without exception.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Human Rights Commission called for "the cessation of the implementation of the military and security cooperation agreements signed during the armed conflict, the opening of the coastal road, the settlement and processing of the detainees' file and the full disclosure of the fate of all missing persons".

It called on the Security Council and the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to accelerate the work of the international observer mission to monitor the ceasefire, and to expand its mission to include the supervision of mercenary departure operations and to support the efforts of the 5+5 Military Commission in this context.

The ceasefire agreement, signed on 23 October, 2020, in Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations stipulates, among other things, the departure of mercenaries and foreign forces within three months of the signing.

But this clause has not been implemented due to the persistence of differences between the Libyan belligerents.

The sending by the UN of a team of civilian ceasefire observers is likely to promote the implementation of this clause, according to analysts.
