Libyan Media Authority dissolved

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan government on Tuesday announced the dissolution of the Libyan Media Authority, according to a statement issued by the Information Office of the Prime Minister.

Following the dissolution, supervision of the public media, including the channels Libya al Wataniya, Libya al Rasmia, and the Libyan News Agency (LANA), was transferred to the Council of Ministers; the Libyan Sports Channel to the Ministry of Sports and Youth; Amazigh TV to the Ministry of Culture and the channel Al-Hidaya to Dar al-Iftaa.

The Centre for Media Research and Studies, Libya TV Satellite Channel, Libya News Channel, New Media Development Centre, Al-Shurruk Radio and Radio Libya were dissolved.

The government announced the formation of commissions to re-assign employees of the dissolved institutions according to their specialisations and to identify their real and personal property.

The former president of the Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sarraj, had appointed journalist Omar Bayou in October 2020 to head the Libyan Media Authority.
