Libyan High Council of State calls for outcome of security and economic meetings

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Representatives of the High Council of State in Libya, elected to participate in the Geneva Political Dialogue to resolve the Libyan crisis, have stressed the need to clarify the results of the military and economic meeting before engaging in the political process planned in two weeks in the Swiss capital.

The Committee, made up of 13 elected members of the High Council of State and its advisory team, held its second meeting on Wednesday at Council's headquarters in the capital, Tripoli.

It stressed the need to respect the fundamental considerations for engaging in any political dialogue, set out in the joint declaration between the Council of State and the House of Representatives (Parliament) of 19 January, and the conclusions of the High Council at its 49th session.

The High Council of State's 13 personalities to participate in the Geneva dialogue are part of 40 Libyans distributed at the rate of 13 delegates from the House of Representatives, 13 from the Council of State and 14 personalities chosen by the United Nations envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salamé.

Salamé stressed on Tuesday in Geneva that the ceasefire and the arms embargo are essential points to reach a political solution and start the political path.

He also stressed that the question of oil is a question common to the three tracks of the Berlin process - security, economy and politics - adding that "this is a question that we are trying to move forward with the main parties themselves on the ground, because this matter should be discussed with the parties on the ground".

The 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee formed by the Berlin Conference on the basis of five senior regular army officers from each camp, began its meetings on Monday under the supervision of Salamé.

During the first day, the two camps which meet for the first time agreed to work to transform the truce into a permanent ceasefire in order to ensure its respect through the establishment of mechanisms to this regard, according to Mr. Salamé.
