Libyan Foreign Ministry welcomes AU's permanent membership of the G20

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity has welcomed the African Union's accession to the status of permanent member of the G20 at the group's summit held on Saturday in New Delhi, India.

In a communiqué, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed this step, which will enable the African Union to express the aspirations of the African people in an effective and practical way, to help address international challenges and concerns and to present Africa's vision based on its unified positions and its desire to build a fair and stable world.

In its communiqué, the Ministry pointed out that this continental achievement coincides with the anniversary of the announcement of the founding of the African Union on 9 September, 1999, in the city of Sirte, in central Libya, "where the common desire and the African political will emerged on the centrality of the status of the African continent, for which we are working tirelessly to give it a leading position at all levels".

The Group of Twenty (G20) is made up of 19 of the world's most developed economies and the European Union. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues.
