Libyan, Austrian officials discuss resumption of flights

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libyan and Austrial officials have discussed the resumption of flights between the two countries at a rate of three flights per week.

The Libyan ambassador to Austria and permanent representative to international organisations, Osama Abdelhadi, discussed the resumption of flights with an Austrian delegation led by the director general of Vienna International Airport.

According to an official statement, the Austrian side welcomed the idea of resuming flights between the two countries as soon as possible.

This initiative comes after the Libyan Ministry of Transport agreed earlier with its Maltese counterpart to resume air traffic between the two countries, as the first agreement related to the European airspace.

Some airlines in 2014 ceased flying to Libya due to the deterioration of security in the wake of clashes between rival armed groups in the capital, Tripoli.

Some of them, with links with Tunisia, Egypt and Malta, have begun to return since the Government of National Unity assumed office in March 2021 leading to normalisation and stability.
