Libya, three other countries express reservations over Arab League resolution

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Accord (GNA) has announced that its delegate to the Arab League, as well as two other countries expressed reservations about the provisions of an Arab League resolution on Libya.

A statement from the Arab League said that Libya, Tunisia, Qatar and Somalia have expressed reservations about part of the seventh paragraph "that does not distinguish between the forces of a friendly state present on Libyan territory on the basis of an invitation and a written agreement between the two legitimate governments filed with the United Nations , and among other forces that violate the sovereignty of the Libyan state and were present in Libya to illegally support aggression and coup against legitimacy and disrupt the establishment of a civil state."

Libya's Foreign Affairs ministry said in a post on its official website on Tuesday that "its delegate and friendly countries have also expressed reservations about the eighth paragraph of the resolution regarding the acceptance of the announcement of the Egyptian initiative, which it called 'Libyan initiative'.

The ministry stated that the GNA was the only legitimate government recognized at the Arab and international level and was not invited or consulted on this Egyptian initiative, adding that "therefore, participation in this ministerial meeting took place at the delegate level (the Libyan delegate in charge of the League of Arab States)".

The official website of the ministry stated that the Libyan state had not participated at ministerial level in the emergency meeting of the League of Arab States regarding the situation in Libya, since the meeting was centred on the acceptance of the 'Cairo Declaration' on a proposal called the Libyan initiative.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi presented an initiative called the "Cairo Declaration on the Settlement of the Crisis in Libya" in the presence of Libyan Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh and Marshal Khalifa Haftar on a reform of the Presidential Council.

This initiative, which received a mixed reception both inside and outside Libya, was rejected by the GNA and its ally Turkey, seen as an attempt to secure an exit for Haftar after his defeat in western Libya and the loss of the Tripoli war.
