Libya's Education Minister highlights efforts to build human resources through access to learning

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Minister of Education, Moussa al-Magaryef, has emphasised the relentless efforts to build human resources through compulsory and free education and learning at general education level.

It is also to facilitate access to university and technical higher education free of charge in all regions of the country, and to help close the gaps in the fight against illiteracy.

In his speech on Wednesday to the 42nd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Paris, Mr al-Magaryef stressed the ministry's ongoing efforts to offset educational losses, reduce dropout indicators and improve technical and digital skills for learners, educational and pedagogical leaders, a ministry statement said.

In this respect, he reviewed the remedial education initiative, which has been set up in cooperation and coordination with UNICEF and which has targeted more than 50,000 pupils in various regions of the country.

Mr al-Magaryef explained that the initiative is ongoing, stressing that in its current phase, it will target pupils in areas recently exposed to torrential disasters and flooding in the east of the country.

"I take this opportunity to pour out my blessings of mercy and forgiveness on the martyrs of this natural disaster, especially the children, students, educational families and residents, and on all the martyrs and victims of wars, aggressions and crises in all regions of the world," the Minister said.

Mr al-Magaryef also expressed his solidarity with the children of Gaza and all the components of the Palestinian people, stressing their legitimate rights and the need to put an end to the aggression in order to stop the bloodshed and preserve lives and property.

He stressed the Libyan State's willingness to bring UNESCO into the field by activating certain suspended or expired agreements to open its national office in Libya, to be close to the institutions and actors concerned with the fields of work organisation.
