Libya reiterates commitment to pay AU budget arrears

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Foreign Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Tahar Siala, on Thursday reaffirmed his country's commitment to pay its African Union (AU) budget arrears.

In a speech at a virtual meeting of the AU Executive Council, which brings together the foreign ministers, Mr. Siala stressed the position of northern Africa on the contribution of countries in the region to the Peace Fund, in accordance with the equitable contribution between regions, according to a statement issued on the ministry's website.

It said the AU Executive Council also considered a number of items related to elections in the various AU organs.

These are: Election and appointment of four judges to the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights; election and appointment of six members of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child; election and appointment of six members of the African Union Advisory Council on Anti-Corruption; and postponement of the consideration of the appointment of a chairman of the African League.

The Executive Council also approved decisions submitted to its 38th ordinary session.
