Libya presents roadmap to lift embargo imposed by Italy on Libyan carriers

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Civil Aviation Authority has presented a roadmap for the lifting of an embargo imposed by the Italian government on Libyan airlines, as well as measures taken to strengthen civil aviation safety in the North African country.

This was unveiled at a meeting held on Sunday in Tripoli that brought together the deputy minister of transport for aviation, Khaled al-Swaissi and the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, Mohamed Achlaibak.

The others were the chairman of the Airports Authority, Mohamed Fassatwi, the Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, and the rapporteur of the Committee for communication with the Italian side.

A statement from the Air Transport Authority said the meeting discussed the restrictions imposed by the Italian government on Libyan airlines and how to develop a mechanism to lift them.

The Libyan Civil Aviation Authority said it presented, on the sidelines of the meeting, "a screening of a documentary explaining the mechanism of the work programme related to the lifting of restrictions and fulfilling the conditions for lifting the air embargo and showing the percentage of achievement that has been reached, in addition to the measures taken in the implementation of the programme for strengthening civil aviation security".

The Italian ambassador expressed his gratitude and full support for the completed mechanism, pledging to convey a clear picture to the Italian Civil Aviation Authority.
