Libya participates in meeting of AU Ministerial Committee on African Agenda 2063

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity took part in a meeting of the African Union (AU) Ministerial Committee responsible for monitoring the implementation of African Agenda 2063, which was held virtually.

The meeting discussed the report on the evaluation of the first ten-year plan of the Agenda, the presentation of the draft of the second ten-year plan, and the draft relevant documents to be submitted to the African Union Summit to be held in the coming period, according to a statement issued on Friday evening by the Press Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity.

In its speech, the Libyan delegation stressed the importance of providing sustainable funding for Agenda 2063, whether at national, regional or continental level, the same source said.

The meeting also discussed Libya's efforts to move forward the African Union institutions concerned with funding, while the Libyan State proposed an item on the agenda of the 37th session of the Assembly of the African Union entitled "Accelerating the activation of the African Investment Bank" to provide sustainable funding to develop educational infrastructure in Africa, granted by Libya at the 37th Summit of Heads of State and Government of African countries scheduled for 17 and 18 February 2024.

The Libyan delegation attending the meeting was led by the Director of the African Affairs Department, Abdel Nasser Younes, on behalf of the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry's International Cooperation Department.

Libya took part in the meeting as a representative of a regional economic grouping of the African Union, namely the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU - Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia).
