Libya lauds AU's role in achieving peace and stability in the country

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, on Tuesday hailed the role of the president of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, and the African Union (AU) for their support to the efforts of the Presidential Council to achieve peace and stability in the North African country.

He was speaking during a meeting in Tripoli with the special envoy of the Congolese president, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville, Jean-Claude Gakosso, said a statement from the Presidential Council.

It said the meeting, which was attended by an AU delegation, discussed the latest developments in the political situation in Libya, and the measures adopted by the Presidential Council for the success of the national reconciliation project.

The African Union, through its High Level Committee on Libya, provides technical support to the reconciliation process in the country.

The Deputy Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdallah Al-Lafi, earlier on Tuesday also met with Mr. Gakosso as well as the Head and members of the Monitoring Committee of the national reconciliation project.

The meeting also discussed the creation of conditions for the success of the Preparatory Forum of the Global Conference, and the elaboration of proposals that will enhance the success of the national reconciliation project in Libya.

The Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council stressed their determination to continue to complete all tracks of national reconciliation.
