Libya, Italy discuss safety training programs

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libya's Minister of the Interior of the National Unity Government, Fathi Bachagha, met with Italian Defense Minister Elizabetta Trenta on security cooperation between the two countries and the implementation of a training program in this area.

 

The meeting, held Thursday in Italy, afforded the two officials the opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation, and the establishment of training programs to increase the level and effectiveness of security and police in the ministry, under the supervision of the Carabinieri Military Police, said a statement from the Libyan Ministry's Information Office.

The meeting was attended by the Italian Chief of Staff, Gen. Claudio Graziano, and senior officials of the Italian Ministry of Defense.

During his visit, Mr. Bachagha also met with the Director of the Political and Security Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, the Libyan Ambassador to Italy, the ambassador of Italy in Libya, the ambassadors of the United States, Britain, France and Egypt, says an official French government source.

During the meeting at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bachagha reviewed the work of the Ministry of the Interior, as well as that of its services, particularly in the fight against terrorismand extremism.
