Libya crisis: Wounded Libyans treated in Tunisia

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Many wounded Libyans, victims of the clashes that have been taking place for more than a week in and around Tripoli, have been transferred to Tunisia to receive medical care appropriate to their state of health,  PANA learned from reliable sources on Thursday.

Currently visiting Tunisia, the vice-president of the presidential council of the Libyan government of national accord, Ahmed Miitig, on Wednesday visited a number of Tunisian clinics where they are being treated.

According to a communiqué from the presidential council of the Libyan government, Mr Miitig expressed his satisfaction at the quality of services provided for them in these health facilities.

The communiqué did not give the number of injured persons admitted in Tunisia.

Previously, the Libyan official was received by Tunisian President Béji Caïd Essebsi, with whom he discussed the developments in the security situation in Libya and its impact on neighbouring countries and the region as a whole.

The latest death toll of the inter-Libyan clashes by the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 205 people killed, including 18 civilians and 913 wounded.

Diplomatic efforts to end the fighting have not succeeded yet, after two emergency meetings of the UN Security Council, because of the differences between its members.

The attainment of a cease-fire is hindered by the refusal of Marshal Khalifa Haftar to withdraw his troops from occupied areas in the west of the country, a condition laid down by the head of the government of national accord, Fayez Al-Serraj, according to some observers.

A third meeting of the UN Security Council, convened by Germany, is scheduled for Thursday.

But the draft resolution presented to the Member States has not achieved unanimity, which diminishes the hope of going out with measures to end the fighting.
