Libya: Seven killed in separate rebel attacks in Benghazi

Benghazi, Libya (PANA) – Seven persons were killed Saturday in separate attacks in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, indicating a fresh outbreak of assassinations targeting the armed forces and the police, hospital sources said Sunday.

Different hospitals in Benghazi on Saturday received four bodies including three of soldiers who were shot after being tortured, medical sources said, adding that the three other victims were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in different parts of the city.

The assassinations come as armed clashes with heavy weapons are being reported between troops loyal to retired General Khalifa Haftar, backed by units of the Libyan Army, and armed groups of the Choura Council of Benghazi revolutionaries, a coalition of armed Islamist militias including Ansar Asharia.

Fighter jets, heavy weapons, missiles, rockets and tanks are used in the fighting which has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced inhabitants of districts in the vicinity of battle zones.
