Libya: Planes diverted from Maitigua Airport in Tripoli will land in Misrata - Officials

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The director of Misrata International Airport (220 km east of Tripoli), Adel Kzeit, announced on Monday that preparations are underway at the airport to receive flights diverted from from the Maitigua airport of Tripoli after the suspension until further order of the air navigation following a new rocket attacks.

An emergency meeting of the Flight Scheduling Committee was held in the early hours of Monday morning to schedule the diverted flights to Misrata airport, Kzeit said.

This committee "will reorganize the slots for flights to and from Misrata Airport, depending on the capacity of the airport, and provide passenger services," said the airport's director quoted by the Al-Wassat newspaper.

The Committee, chaired by a member of the Airport Authority, includes representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority, the airline, the handling company and the ground services, and representatives of the airlines.

The Ministry of Communications of the Government of National Unity announced on Monday the coordination with the airlines on the schedule of flights to and from Misrata airport, after the transfer of flights to this airport following the bombing of Maitiga airport on Sunday.

Three airlines have decided to fly directly to Misrata International Airport instead of Maitiga in Tripoli, due to the continued closure of the airport after being bombed at dawn last Saturday, while preparing to receive a group of pilgrims, which resulted in the closure of the airspace.

According to the Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government, four citizens, including three pilgrims "one woman and two men" and another citizen, were injured, and another 30 fainted due to the rising rate of arterial blood pressure and blood sugar levels as a result of the panic caused by the fall of a rocket near their plane.
