Libya: 230 illegal migrants arrested off Libya-Sudan coasts

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – Libyan soldiers, patrolling the desert, have arrested 230 illegal migrants at the country's borders with Sudan, a security source announced here Friday.

The migrants were arrested on board of two vehicles by the brigade Omar Mokhtar of the border-guards of Tobrouk, in Eastern Libya.

The source said that the migrants, including women and children of Sudanese and Eritrean nationalities, looked tired and have been transferred at the retention centre for illegal migrants in Tobrouk where they received medical care.

They are also awaiting deportation to their various countries.

More than 400 illegal immigrants, majority of them from the Horn of Africa, were arrested last week in the Libyan territorial waters for attempting to reach Europe on board of several small boats.

Libya, a transit and destination country for illegal immigrants, shares borders with six Sub-Saharan African countries.
