LAS Summit agrees to support Libya’s legitimate institutions for national reconciliation

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The 30th Summit of the League of Arab States (LAS) has underlined the importance of support to Libya’s legitimate institutions and to the Quartet dialogue held by the League with the participation of the African Union and the United Nations on resolving the Libyan crisis through national reconciliation.

In the final communiqué of the Summit on Sunday, the LAS leaders reaffirmed their support to "the Libyan government in the efforts to eradicate terrorist rings and eliminate the threats which their bases  represent on Libya and its neighbourhood’’.

"We also back the efforts made to reach a deal that should end the crisis through national reconciliation, in accordance with the deal signed in the Moroccan city of Skhirat, in addition to preserving Libya’s territorial integrity and the cohesion of its community,’’ the Arab leaders stated in the document, titled 'Tunis Declaration' at the end of the Summit, held 26-31 March in Tunis.

According to the declaration, Arab leaders have committed themselves to give all  possible means to eliminate the terrorist groups and eradicate terrorists in all military, security and at the intellectual confrontation level.

They said that they are also committed to carry on the fight against terrorism and eliminate its causes, in addition  to defeating persons behind terrorist enterprises, in the Middle-East, Africa and abroad.

‘’We insist on our commitment to warn terrorists who exploit the information and the social communication means in the recruitment, publicity and diffusion of extremism ideology and hatred, which misrepresents the image of Islam,’’ the Arab leaders said.

They strongly condemned the attempts to establish the link between terrorism and Islam, calling on representatives of the international community and the United Nations to venture a unified definition of terrorism, which has neither identity nor nation for itself.

The document urged governments of all countries to assume their responsibilities to fight against this dangerous phenomenon.
