Kinshasa agog as African musicians usher in Francophonie Summit
Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - Kinshasa, the DR Congo capital, "vibrated" Wednesday evening to the beat of more than 100 musicians from french-speaking African countries as leaders from the 75-nation Francophonie gather here for their biennial summit on Friday, PANA reports.
Over 50,000 music lovers, most of them young people. stormed the Martyrs stadium here dancing to difference tunes.
PANA reports that the stadium gates were thrown open from 4pm local time and shortly after musicians took their turns in entertaining the crowd.
The performers included Congolese traditional groups and ballets, followed by groups and musicians from several Francophone Africa countries who performed until the wee hours of Thursday.
Musicians like Nyoka Longo, Lutumba, Koffi Olomide and the Bantu orchestra from Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, also mounted the podium.
