Heat wave at Brussels airport causes RwandAir flight delays, cancellations

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - The heat wave at Brussels-Zaventem international airport has caused flight delays and cancellations by Rwanda flag carrier, RwandAir in Kigali on Friday.

Among the halted flights of RwandAir from Kigali is flight WB700 that has changed its route to be operated directly from Kigali to London Gatwick airport before connecting to Brussels.

"We sincerely apologise for all inconveniences this may cause," the airline said in a message posted on its Twitter handle.

Aviation experts state that when temperatures exceed 47 degrees Celsius (116 Fahrenheit), planes can be grounded as some aircraft manufacturers can't guarantee the necessary engine propulsion.

The warmer it gets, the less density there is in the air, which in turn results in less upwind for the wings, they explain.
