Head of Sudanese security replaced

Khartoum Sudan (PANA) - The head of the Sudanese National Intelligence service, Lt.-Gen. Abu Bakar Damblab, resigned from his post and Gen. Jamal Abdul Mageed took over, it was officially announced in Khartoum on Thursday.

The Sudanese collective Presidency, known as the Sovereign Council, met on Thursday and accepted the resignation tendered by Gen Damblab.

Although no reason was provided, but the move comes two days after a mutiny by a group of security privates and officers from the Operation Department, an elite 13,000 strong force the government decided to dissolve after the demise of the rule of President Omar Bashir in April 2019.

The disgruntled elements said they were not happy with the compensation and as a way of protest occupied a number of areas in and outside Khartoum.

The mutiny was brought under control but the president of the council, Gen Abdul Fatah Al Burhan, who said he was not happy with the way the chief spy had handled the issue.

Gen Burhan had even described the limited mutiny as a frank rebellion that would be dealt with promptly.
