Greek delegation in Libya to explore ways to establish air links

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - A Greek delegation on Wednesday visited Benina International Airport in Benghazi, Libya's second largest city, to study the airport's flight operation and procedures in preparation for the opening of a Benghazi-Athens air link.

The Greek delegation included the Consul General of Greece, accompanied by representatives of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, met with the Director General of Benina International Airport, his deputy, and other top officials of the airport.

A statement issued by Benina International Airport said the visit aimed to identify the procedures for operating flights at the airport, adding that a meeting was held during which the applicable procedures and the general and future plan of Benina International Airport were discussed and clarified.

The delegation visited a number of facilities and aircraft inside the airport and closely monitored the nature of their work and the applicable protocols, the statement said.

The delegation expressed great satisfaction with the nature of work inside the airport, according to the statement.

It is recalled that most foreign airlines stopped flying to Libya in 2014 due to the deterioration of security in the wake of clashes between armed groups in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

However, since the national unity government took office in March, following the completion of the political process under the aegis of the UN, Libya has entered a phase of normalization that has allowed the return of embassies and international diplomatic missions, as well as the resumption of certain air links with Tunisia, Egypt and Malta.
