Greece seeks to attend Berlin conference on Libya

Athens, Greece (PANA) - Greece is seeking to participate in the UN-brokered conference on Libya in Berlin in January, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview published on Sunday by the Greek weekly "To Vima".

"We don't want a source of instability in our neighbourhood. So we have a say in developments in Libya. We want to be part of the solution in Libya because it also concerns us," Mitsotakis said.

"I have asked, and I will do so again with greater emphasis, that we participate in the Berlin process," Mitsotakis added.

The UN plans to hold an international conference in Berlin in January to end international divisions over Libya and pave the way for a political solution to the protracted conflict.

Turkey signed two controversial agreements in November with the Tripoli-based Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) on military cooperation between the two sides and maritime demarcation.

But Greece has described them as "unfounded" and contrary to international law, saying that Turkey and Libya do not share any common maritime borders.
