Greece, Algeria share same position on Libyan crisis, says Greek FM

Algiers, Algeria (PANA) - Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said in Algiers on Thursday that Greece and Algeria shared the same position on the Libyan crisis, favouring the political solution "far from any foreign interference".

In a statement to the press, following his meeting with Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum, the Greek Minister said that Greece and Algeria "favour the political solution for the settlement of the Libyan crisis, far from military option and foreign interference".

The head of Greek diplomacy highlighted the work carried out by Algeria for the settlement of the Libyan crisis, through its efforts to reach a political solution that will allow the return to peace and stability in the country and beyond.

Faced with the "concerning" situation in Libya, Greece and Algeria "underline the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and any foreign intervention", he added, noting the importance of continuing efforts within the framework of the United Nations to put an end to this conflict.

He also said that Greece and Algeria "are committed to strengthening their bilateral relations, through increased contacts and consultation for peace and stability in our common region".

For his part, Mr. Boukadoum said that the meeting allowed for exchange of views and to consult on a number of issues, including bilateral and regional issues, as well as the challenges facing the Mediterranean region, Libya in particular.

This situation also worries Greece, which is also contributing to efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis.
