Government denies that Bashir about to handover power to military

Khartoum,  Sudan (PANA) - The Sudanese government on Monday denied news reports that President Omar Bashir is about to hand over power to the military.

“This report is completely unfounded,” Sudan’s Minister of Information and government Spokesman, Hassan Ismail, said in a terse item published by the official news agency.

News reports circulating in Khartoum, based on a western news media story, claimed that President Bashir was “close to handing over power to the Armed Forces.

The minister described the report as completely unfounded; and that no such issue has been brought to the table for discussion at all.

He argued that given the challenges facing the Sudan, such reports were “intended to cause confusion among Sudanese people”.

The spokesman indicated that the president is discharging his duties and executing his scheduled meetings normally, including meeting with the representatives of the Coordination Committee of the Dialogue to agree on the timetables and agenda of the dialogue forum.
