Gambia’s new VP, from an unqualified teacher to vice president

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - Gambian leader Adama Barrow has appointed Muhammad Jallow, an experienced Civil Servant, who served in different capacities, from an unqualified teacher to Permanent Secretary in various Ministries as Vice President.

“In accordance with the provisions of Sections 70(1) and 70(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency President Adama Barrow has appointed Mr. Muhammad B. S. Jallow as Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia with effect from 24th February 2023,” the statement made available PANA said.

He replaced late VP Badara Alieu Joof, Who died following a short illness last month. He passed away in India where he was receiving treatment.

He rose to the position of Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, a position he held until his statutory retirement in 2020.

Mr. Jallow also worked at the Senegal-Gambia Secretariat as Deputy Executive Secretary representing The Gambia.
