Gambia Football Federation president cleared to contest for FIFA Council

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - Gambian Football Federation (GFF) President, Lamin Kaba Bajo, has been cleared by the FIFA Review Committee to contest for a position in the world football governing body’s main decision making body, the FIFA Council.

 

A statement obtain  by PANA on Wednesday said Mr. Bajo is competing with six other candidates for two of Anglophone’s FIFA Council membership spots.

 

He underwent an eligibility check and in a letter addressed to him on 26 January 2021, the FIFA Review Committee declared him eligible for the position having passed the check.

 

The election for the Council position will be held on March 12 in Rabat, Morocco, at the CAF Elective Congress where the President and members of the Executive Committee of the continental football governing body will be elected for another four-year term.

 

The FIFA Council consists of 37 members: one President, elected by the FIFA Congress; eight vice presidents, and 28 other members elected by member associations – each for a term of four years.

 

The Council is the main decision-making body of the organization in the intervals of FIFA Congress. Its members are elected by the FIFA Congress. It is a non-executive, supervisory and strategic body that sets the vision for FIFA and global football.
