Gabon to host 9th Central African States summit

Libreville, Gabon (PANA) - The Gabonese capital, Libreville, will on Wednesday host the 9th Special Session of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Gabonese presidency announced on Monday.

The meeting, which will focus on the ECCAS institutional reform, including the review and adoption of draft texts relating to the organic framework, was initiated by President Ali Bongo Ondimba, current ECCAS  president, an official statement said.

The statement further states that the Gabonese head of state received a mandate from his peers to lead the ECCAS institutional reform at the 16th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government held in May 2015 in N'Djamena, Chad.

ECCAS was established on 18 October 1983 by members of the Union of Central African States (UDEAC), Sao Tomé and Principe and members of the Great Lakes Economic Community (created in 1976 by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Burundi and Rwanda).

Today, the member countries are: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Sao Tomé and Principe.
