GNU bans Libyan ministers, top officials from meeting with representatives abroad

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Fayez Al-Sarraj, the President of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Unity (GNU) recognized by the international community, has banned Libyan ministers, deputy ministers, mayors, heads of agencies and public bodies and all other officials, from meeting with officials or institutions abroad without GNU authorization.

In a decree issued on Friday, the GNU said that the decision "aims to control the activities of public institutions and prevent any violations or offenses detrimental to the public interest".
 
"These officials are prohibited from holding meetings with parties or official bodies abroad, except with the permission of the Presidential Council of the GNU and subject to providing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the necessary reports on the results of such meetings and others, if it obtains authorization," specified the decree.
 
The President of the Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sarraj, has recently started consultations with the components of society in Libya with a view to adopting a common vision of ending the crisis and the future of the country, and the state to which Libyans aspire.          

On Thursday, Al-Sarraj met with mayors and presidents of municipal councils in national consultative meetings aimed at "reaching a common vision of the current crisis and the problems of the country in general", according to the statement issued by the press office of the President of the Council, published on Friday.
 
At the meeting, Al-Sarraj praised the role of the municipalities, which not only provide services to citizens, but also play an important national role in protecting the home front and making an effective contribution to the political dialogue.
 
The President of the Presidential Council held a series of national consultation meetings, including with deputies in Tripoli, the President and members of the High Council of State and a number of intellectuals with whom he discussed the evolution of the political crisis and the war in the capital.
