G5 Sahel police officers, gendarmes, custom officers trained in border management

Niamey, Niamey (PANA) - Some 30 gendarmes, police and customs officers from the five G5 Sahel countries have completed a training prgramme on border management in Niamey.

The programme for participants from Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Niger and Chad from 26 August to 5 September is expected to have helped them to raise awareness among border law enforcement officials about migration, cross-border crime and terrorism.

It was specifically aimed at raising awareness of the regulatory frameworks governing the movement of people and goods in the G5 Sahel area and in order to control all procedures for the control of persons and goods.

It was also about raising awareness of the many potential threats to airports, teaching them techniques for detecting fraud on official documents, and introducing them to current new technologies at airports.

The training was organised at the joint initiative of the Sahel Security College (CSS) and the G5 Sahel and CSS Support Project, which has received funding of 7 million euros from the European Union, under its Emergency Trust Fund for Africa.
