G5 Sahel leader urges international community to support the fight against terrorism

Niamey, Niger (PANA) – Burkinabè President Rock Marc Christian Kaboré, also current chair of the G5 Sahel, on Sunday in Niamey said that the recurrent terrorist attacks in Sahel countries must concern all  and bring those countries to work more than ever in synergy to preserve peace and stability, which are guarantees of sustainable development for any country.

Opening the extraordinary summit of G5 Sahel Heads of State and Government, Mr Kaboré said that ‘’peace and stability in our common space require us to make join efforts to succeed in the fight against terrorism."

He said that this fight, in addition to its security dimensions, must from now on take political and economic dimensions for the future of nations.

President Kabore reaffirmed the commitment of G5 countries to combat terrorism under all its forms, calling the international community to continue offering the needed support.

Nigerien President Issoufou Mahamadou welcomed his counterparts pointing out that ‘’the terrorist and criminal threat on Sahel countries aggravates and rises in intensity’’ with frequent attacks on military positions, assassinations of civilian populations and abductions of people.

In addition, he said that ‘’the field of operation of terrorists extends itself day by day, the sophisticated war material they have is reinforced’’ as they themselves become true professionals of the art of war.

Against this situation more and more marked at the strategic plan by attacks against regular troops and their alliances, President Mahamadou urged his G5 Sahel peers to make all arrangements to prevent a fifth column from establishing and sap the war efforts made by G5 Sahel countries. In that respect, he called on the international community to render them support.

According to him, the international community, because it is largely responsible for the security situation in Sahel since its unilateral and disastrous intervention in Libya, must assume its responsibilities.

The G5 Sahel heads of State and government summit opened on Sunday  in Niamey chaired by Burkinabè president Roch Marc Christian Kaboré.

It is attended by President Issoufou Mahamadou, who is also host of the Summit, and the Chadian, Malian and Mauritanian presidents.
