G5 Sahel Summit opens in Nouakchott on Tuesday

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - Four heads of state of the G5 Sahel have arrived in Nouakchott for their sixth summit which opens in the Mauritanian capital on Tuesday.

Roc Marc Christian Kaboré of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita of Mali, Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger and Chad's Idriss Deby Itno, will join their host Mohamed ould Cheikh El Ghazouani at the meeting, which is taking place amid an upsurge in terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

At the end of the meeting, Mauritanian President El Ghazouani will succeed Burkinabe president Kaboré, as head of the sub-regional organization.

Created in December 2014, the G5 Sahel is dedicated to coordinating actions to combat terrorism and insecurity and pooling development efforts.
