French Secretary of State for gender equality meets with president Kaboré

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Burkina Faso’s president, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, on Friday granted audience to the French Secretary of State to the Prime Minister in charge of gender equality and the fight against discriminations, Mrs Marlène Schiappa, the Burkinabe presidency said.

"I have had the opportunity to share with president Kaboré on issues related to women protection against female genital mutilations and forced marriages," said Mrs Schiappa at the end of her talks with Burkina Faso president.

She added that she already had to work with the Burkinabe minister in charge of Women and talked with her about Burkina Faso’s commitment to strengthen women protection.

Mrs Schiappa said that France was considering ‘’supporting what is already done by the Burkina Faso government. That support can be materialized through the plea, pedagogy and financing for feminist NGOs fighting for gender equality’’.

This year, France chairs the G7 where issues related to women protection and gender equality are put on the list of priorities.

‘’We want to open the G7 to other countries, mainly Sahel countries which Burkina Faso is part of’’, said the French Secretary of State.
