French, Egyptian presidents discuss Libyan crisis

Cairo, Egypt (PANA) – The Libyan crisis was at the centre of talks on telephone between Egyptian president Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi and French president Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, according to the spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Bessam Radhi.

The talks examined several regional issues of common interest, particularly the situation in Libya for which Mr Al-Sissi reaffirmed his country’s position of support for Libya’s unity, stability and security and for the application of the will of the Libyan people.

He also reaffirmed Egypt’s support to the Libyan National Army (LNA) commanded by Marshal Khalifa Haftar in the fight against terrorism and the eradication of terrorist groups, which threaten not only security in Libya, but also the region and Mediterranean basin.

In that respect, he rejected foreign interference in Libya, the spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency said.

President Macron reaffirmed the importance of ending the current crisis that threatens security in the region.

He insisted on the restoration of security in Libya, a country which should regain its place and role at the regional and international levels.
