France wishes new Sudanese Prime Minister success

Paris, France (PANA) - The French Foreign Ministry has welcomed the appointment of members of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council on Wednesday and wished the country's new Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok great success in his mission.

"France calls on the new Sudanese authorities to respect the timetable of the transition and the formation of the government within the given deadlines, so that it tackles the problem that the Sudanese still face," said the ministry on Thursday, while inviting all Sudanese parties and various rebel groups to engage in the early conclusion of a peace agreement.

The Sovereign Council, which replaces the Transition Military Council, was inaugurated on Wednesday, along with its chairman, the head of the outgoing Military Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.

The agreement on a constitutional declaration, concluded between the Alliance for Freedom and Change, spearhead of the challenge, and the Military Council signed on Saturday, states that General Al-Burhan will be in charge of the Council for 21 months and a civilian administration will succeed him for the rest of the 39 months of transition.

France called on Sudan's external partners to accompany it in the continuation of the transition, with political and economic support, and reiterated its willingness to assist the Sudanese authorities.
