France encourages Sudanese to implement transition agreement "in good faith"

Paris, France (PANA) - France has  welcomed the conclusion of a comprehensive transition agreement between the Transitional on Military Council and the Sudanese opposition, calling on both sides to implement it "in good faith".
 
"France welcomes the conclusion of a comprehensive agreement on the transition between the Transitional Military Council and the Sudanese opposition on August 2,'' said the French Foreign ministry on Monday.
 
''France encourages the parties to implement this agreement in good faith, within the time allowed, to respect the will of the Sudanese people. It reiterates its willingness to accompany this transition alongside Sudan's partners."

France also welcomed the spirit of compromise on both sides, as well as the mediation work of the African Union, which resulted in the initialling of this agreement and sets a precise timetable for implementation in the coming weeks, of a civilian-led government, a Sovereignty Council and a Parliament.
 
The agreement on a constitutional declaration, concluded Saturday between the Alliance for Freedom and Change (ALC), the spearhead of the challenge and the Military Council was initialled on August 4, by both parties and will be signed on August 17.

The formation of the Sovereign Council, a new body that will manage the transition, will be announced on August 18 and the composition of a government will be put in place by the end of August.
