France announces a quadripartite summit on Libya to hold early 2020

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a new four-party summit bringing together Turkish, French, German and British leaders on the situation in Libya, to be held in the first quarter of 2020, the Libyan newspaper al-Wassat reported on Friday.

Macron's announcement came after the NATO summit in London, according to the same paper.

Referring to the content of the memorandums of understanding signed between Turkey and the Presidential Council in Libya, the French President mentioned "the existence of several issues that are the subject of dispute between Turkey and France", underlining the need to continue the dialogue between the two countries."

The four-way summit in London, attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, concluded with a declaration supporting UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salamé to advance the political process led by Libyans to end the conflict in their countries.

The search for a solution to the crisis in Libya is at the centre of the annual Mediterranean Forum, organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the presence of Ghassan Salamé, Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Siala and several foreign ministers of the Mediterranean countries, which started on  Friday in Rome.

This meeting, due to close on Saturday, precedes a preparatory meeting of the Berlin International Conference on Libya, scheduled for December 10, to refine the positions of the countries participating in this Conference, the aim of which is to proclaim a ceasefire and revive the political process.
