Four terrorists killed in Khartoum, security forces hunt for others

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - Four terrorists affiliated to Islamic State (ISIS) were killed when a joint force of Sudanese General Intelligence Service, Armed Forces, the Rapid Support Forces stormed their hideouts in a Khartoum suburb on Monday, government media reported on Tuesday.

The official media said four other terrorists were injured, three of them seriously. A Sudanese security officer was also killed. 

A press statement issued by the Sudanese General Intelligence Service stated that the joint force raided two locations in Jabra neighbourhood, south of downtown Khartoum, Square 15 and 18, following a lead on the presence of ISIS elements in the areas.

The shootout resulted in the killing of four persons from the terrorist cell and the arrest of two terrorists at the first site, Square 15. Two others were arrested at the second site, Square 18.

The statement explained that the joint force cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of civilian population and properties.

It said the terrorist group began opening heavy gunfire at the joint force from a variety of weapons, including Kalashnikov and other machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and grenades.

According to the statement, a non-commissioned officer of the Armed Forces died and an officer with the rank of Major, a non-commissioned officer from the General Intelligence Service, and a non-commissioned officer from the Police Force were injured in the exchange of fire.

Earlier last Saturday, the joint force carried out a raid on two sites in Omdurman, which resulted in the arrest of eight foreign elements.

The security said they are still on the look out for remnants of the terrorists.

The authorities asked people to report any suspected people they spot and to fully cooperate with the security elements.
