Flights resumes at Maitigua airport in Tripoli

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Flights resumed on Tuesday at Maitigua airport, in the eastern suburbs of Tripoli, the airport management has announced.

The management on Monday suspended flights after rockets fell on several facilities in the airport perimeter.

An Afriqiyah Airways plane cancelled its flight at the last minute on Monday evening, causing passengers who had already boarded to disembark.

The first flights of pilgrims to Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, for the 2019 Hajj season will begin on Tuesday, the airport's management announced.

Maitigua airport is the only airport serving Tripoli, after the destruction in 2014 of the city's main airport. It is adjacent to a military base and has been regularly the target of shelling since the launch of the military operation against Tripoli on 4 April by the Libya National Army from eastern Libya.
