First edition of Mali Media Fair scheduled for 30 June - 2 July 2022

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The first edition of the Mali Media Fair will be held from 30 June to 2 July in Bamako on the theme "Media Entrepreneurship", the organizers told PANA here Tuesday.

The Fair, sponsored by the president of the National Transitional Council (CNT), the legislative body of the Transition in Mali, Colonel Malick Diaw, is an initiative of the communication agency "La Différence" to promote not only the Malian press but also its role and mission in society.

This is especially so in the Malian context where a process of national re-foundation is underway to redefine the legal framework for all public and private services.

According to observers, it will be a question of reflecting on the role and place of the media, especially in the process of national reconstruction, as well as certain notions such as the law on cybercrime, which is a threat to freedom of expression, the protection of journalists and media men in the exercise of their function, the social security of journalists and media men and the financing of media enterprises.

This exhibition also aims to create a space for meetings, exchanges and promotion of the media in Mali, and to encourage the media to become more involved in citizen building initiatives.

Through this meeting, the initiators intend to give visibility to the media, to inform and sensitize the public on the role of the media, to bring the media actors to promote continuous training, to appropriate effectively the ICT and to promote digital communication.

They also intend to promote media products and activities, pay tribute to media men and managers who have marked the year, draw the public's attention to media services and create a dynamic partnership framework.

According to statistics, Mali has 230 newspapers, nearly 500 radio stations and about 40 television stations.
